The village sits on a cliff, and at the bottom of that cliff there is a completely different Sidi Bou Said: a compact yacht harbour, a strip of sand, and a line of restaurants grilling whatever came in that morning. It is a stiff walk down and a stiffer one back up — roughly two hundred steps and a switchback road — which is exactly why the marina stays calmer than the lanes above.
The famous terrace café on the cliff looks straight down on the masts, and the classic Sidi Bou Said afternoon is to do both: fish on the quay, then the climb, then mint tea at the top while you recover.

Eat grilled fish on the quay
Choose from the ice, agree the price by weight before it is cooked, and eat it with a salade méchouia and a bottle of water looking at the boats. Simple and very good.
Get out on the water
Kayaks, paddleboards, small boat trips and catamaran charters all run from here. Seeing the white cliff from two hundred metres offshore is a genuinely different experience of the village.
Swim off the beach
There is a small stretch of sand by the harbour. It is not La Marsa, but it is a swim, and in July and August that matters.
Take the cliff path back up at sunset
The road up faces west across the gulf. Time it for the last half hour of light and the whole bay goes copper.
How to get to The Marina & Café des Délices
- From the main square, follow the signs down past the lighthouse road — about fifteen minutes down, twenty-five back up.
- A taxi from the top of the village to the marina costs very little and is a sensible idea in July and August, or with children.

- Agree the fish price per kilo before it goes on the grill. This is normal practice and avoids surprises.
- The climb back is genuinely steep in heat — carry water, or plan to take a taxi up.
